Things you need to Know!
Clues and hints of how to survive Everquest II. Green text means it was updated recently

PALLY SPECIFIC TRICKS

Experience
  • Mobs that are grey give no experience or encounter chests. If you are about to level, and need a chest from green mobs, turn off experience by right clicking your experience bar or mentor.
  • To get quest updates for mob kills, your level needs to be at least 3/4 of the level of the highest player in the group, rounded up. But the level difference never needs to be less than 6 levels, and can never be more than 15 levels. The level of the mob does not matter.
Travel
  • At the docks (Mariner's Bell on the map) you can instantly "teleport" to another place within Qeynos or outside of Qeynos. Some zones can only be accessed this way, like the Caves.
  • Instanced zone too busy? Not enough MOBs or Mining spots? Zone out and zone back into another instance.
  • Sprint everywhere you go in town as your Power is probably not going to get used.
  • Use the Griffon Towers and Horses. They are free and move you around the world fast and safely.
  • Don't know which zone a group mate is it? Mouse over their name to see which zone they are in.
Health/Food
  • To automatically eat or drink right click on the food/drink and choose "Eat/Drink when I'm hungry".
  • When you run out of food or drink you need to buy more. You will start to really feel it in combat situations.
  • Drink replenishes power. Food replenishes health. The higher the level the food/drink has the faster you will regenerate. The better the quality (bland, savory, normal, delectable) the food/drink the longer it lasts.
  • NPC and summoned food are always the lowest quality (bland) and since they require no level to make they will help regenerate the slowest.
  • Sitting does NOT help regenerate health or power.
  • Get food/drink appropriate for your level. Always buy food that is above you. If you are 52 buy 60 food/drink.
Money
  • Housing is a privilege and it can add up fast at low levels. If you fail to play you just are not allowed access back into the room until you have paid for it.
  • If you ever get desperately low on money do a repeatable quest or sell your Heritages. You can buy them back later on when you have the money.
  • If you need food do a quest for a food maker. Most are fast courier quests
  • You can allow your alts to be trustees of your house. That way you only pay one rent.
  • Sell all the Collection items you get on the broker. Rare collectibles are sometimes worth a plat+.
Equipment
  • If given the choice of equipment from a quest pick the highest level piece as it will sell for the most. Also be aware of the red text at the bottom of the page as it might tell you you can't equip it.
  • You can link items in chat text by dragging it into the chat input bar.
  • The cap on Flowing Thought out of combat is 52.5 (so 53).
  • The cap on FT In Combat is105 (52.5 from spells and 52.5 from items)
  • The cap on Health Regeneration is 105
  • Equipment that is 50% is not 50% as powerful. It just has 5 more deaths before it is useless and needs repair.
  • Legendary Equipment takes %5 dings when you die as opposed to 10% like the rest of your gear.
  • Buy two Hex Dolls (Paladins STR, STA is a good choice or STA, STA) and put them in your charm slots
Fighting
  • Indepth article on EQ2 Combat
  • Know your basic Heroic Opportunity. It will save you so much time and experience in the end. For fighters it is Fighting Chance, Sword Icon and then Horn Icon.
  • When fighting more than one creature use your Area of Effect skills carefully so you don't hit other mobs close by.
  • Always run at 10% life. Although dying is not as painful as it could be it is just not worth it. Also hit "Call for Help" as you will start to regenerate at a non-combat rate (which is faster) and run faster. If you have the Mob targeted and it becomes untargetted it means they are no longer chasing after you.
  • Group! Targets die faster and you both get credit towards quests.
  • If you find a "Den" or "Nest" killing all of the creatures nearby will spawn harder named mobs.
  • You can select groupmates by hitting F2-F6. F1 selects you and then your pet.
  • All non-grey mobs can drop chests. Group mobs are more likely to drop chests.
