Things you need to Know!
Clues and hints of how to survive Everquest II. Blue text means it was updated recently

Travel
  • At the docks (Mariner's Bell on the map) you can instantly "teleport" to another place within Qeynos or outside of Qeynos. Some zones can only be accessed this way, like the Caves.
  • Instanced zone too busy? Not enough MOBs or Mining spots? Zone out and zone back into another instance.
  • Sprint everywhere you go in town as your Power is probably not going to get used.
  • Use the Griffon Towers. They are free and move you around the world fast and safely.
Health/Food
  • To automatically eat or drink right click on the food/drink and choose "Eat/Drink when I'm hungry".
  • When you run out of food or drink you need to buy more. You will start to really feel it in combat situations.
  • Drink replenishes power. Food replenishes health. The higher the level the food/drink has the faster you will regenerate. The better the quality (bland, savory, normal, delectable) the food/drink the longer it lasts.
  • NPC and summoned food are always the lowest quality (bland) and since they require no level to make they will help regenerate the slowest.
  • Sitting does NOT help regenerate health or power.
  • Examine food so you get food appropriate for your level.
Money
  • Housing is a privilege and it can add up fast at low levels. If you fail to play you just are not allowed access back into the room until you have paid for it.
  • If you ever get desperately low on money do a repeatable quest.
  • If you need food do a quest for a food maker. Most are fast courier quests
  • You can allow your alts to be trustees of your house. That way you only pay one rent.
Equipment
  • If given the choice of equipment pick the highest level piece as it will sell for the most. Also be aware of the red text at the bottom of the page as it might tell you you can't equip it.
  • As your level goes up so does your Magic Affinity. Item statistics are linked to your Magic Affinity.
  • You can link items in chat text by dragging it into the chat input bar.
Fighting
  • Know your basic Heroic Opportunity. It will save you so much time and experience in the end. For fighters it is Fighting Chance, Wild Swing and then Taunt.
  • When fighting more than one creature use your Area of Effect skills carefully so you don't hit other mobs close by.
  • Always run at 20% life. Although dying is not as painful as it could be it is just not worth it. Also hit "Call for Help" as you will start to regenerate at a non-combat rate (which is faster) and run faster. If you have the Mob targeted and it becomes untargetted it means they are no longer chasing after you.
  • Group! Targets die faster and you both get credit towards quests.
  • Mobs that are grey give no experience or encounter chests. If you are about to level, and need a chest from green mobs, turn off experience by right clicking your experience bar.
  • If you find a "Den" or "Nest" killing all of the creatures nearby will spawn harder named mobs.
  • Dying in one instance means your body appears in all instances of that zone.
  • You can select groupmates by hitting F2-F6. F1 selects you and then your pet.
  • You can change your mob level colors. So you actually tell the difference between a white and a grey mob!
  • All non-white mobs can drop chests. Group mobs are more likely to drop chests.
Tradeskills
  • The primary component's quality dictates the maximum quality of the item.
  • You gain more experience for an items you have never made before and for pristine pieces.
  • Once you hit level 10 in tradeskills head to the Qeynos Harbor and the shipyard. Talk the 'Alfred Ironforge' in the back of the building and he will ask you whether you want to be a "Outfitter" (armor, clothes, weapons, etc), "Craftsman)" (Jeweler, Woodworker, etc) or "Scholar" (alchemy, spell scrolls, etc).
  • Once you hit level 10 there are Secondary Trade Societies you can join to get Recipe Books 11-30 and rarer/pristine items.
  • Once you hit level 20 you must talk to Devona Ironforge to choose your trade specialization.
  • Make sure you use examine the trade buffs and are using the ones that help durability.
Guilds
  • Players in a guild do not get the guild tags until the guild is level 5.
  • Guild writs are the way your guild levels up. You must however be patron to earn guild experience. For more information on guild writs go here.
  • You can now do Tradeskill Writs by talking to the woman outside the Ironforge Estate in NQ.
Death
  • Experience debt goes away only when you are not online.
  • If you are online experience debt goes away by gaining experience.
  • Each time you die you will have receive a 15% experience penalty and a 3% experience penalty after collecting your shard.
  • If you die in some dungeons you make retrieve your shard simple by clicking on the entrance.
  • When group mates die you share in their experience debt so keep them all alive!
